PE Curriculum

The Physical Education faculty aims to provide a diverse program of activities, giving every pupil the opportunity to participate in physical activity, sports, and exercise to support their health and fitness. Physical Education lessons at Mossley Hollins are designed to be enjoyable and challenging, allowing pupils to succeed and excel in their physical abilities. These lessons also help our pupils grow in confidence and develop essential life skills, including problem-solving, leadership, communication, creativity, and cooperation. Through competition in PE lessons and extracurricular activities, pupils also have the chance to build character and embrace values such as fairness, honesty, and respect.

School facilities

The school benefits from outstanding facilities for a wide variety of sports, including two outdoor netball/basketball courts, a tennis court, a long and triple jump pit, throwing cage for athletics events, one full size grass football pitch, one full size astro turf, a dance studio, a full size sports hall and fully equipped gym and fitness suite. Our Key Stage 3 curriculum is designed to prepare students for practical assessments in GCSE PE and BTEC Sport Tech Award where they will be assessed in two or three different individual and team sports. Students will be taught by expert practitioners in each sport to allow them to develop their skills, techniques, tactics and strategies throughout Key Stage 3. The activities focused on include; football, basketball, netball, table tennis, dance, trampolining, athletics as well as many other activities which include cross country, fitness, cricket, orienteering, volleyball and badminton.

Extra Curricular clubs and teams

Mossley Hollins High School has long-established sport traditions which include the annual school inter-form competitions in athletics and sport. There is also an extensive extra curricular timetable with a range of sports throughout the year for all pupils to take part. The school is also involved in a wide range of Tameside competitions for all years from Year 7 to 11.

The school has a strong relationship with local MCSP primary schools, hosting and delivering a variety of competitions throughout the year including football, netball, basketball and dodgeball. Mossley Hollins most successful  Primary event is the ‘Mossley Olympics’ where over two hundred pupils from Year 3 to 6 take part in an intra school athletics event organised and delivered by the PE faculty and Sports Leaders.
