The staff and governors of Mossley Hollins High School would like to congratulate our Year 11 students (The Class of 2024) for their outstanding performance in this year’s GCSE examinations. They were an incredible group of students who have achieved fantastic results due to their hardwork, determination and resilience. We are so very proud of them and what they have achieved, we will miss them dearly, but know that they are going to go on and continue to be successful as they transition to the next stage of their education and/or training.
Results continue to be really strong in English and maths, ensuring that the vast majority of our students are now able to continue with their chosen pathways. We are really pleased that almost 80% of students have achieved a good grade in both maths and English.
We are particularly pleased with students’ performance in English where over 70% of the cohort achieved a strong pass and almost 85% achieved a standard pass. We are also very pleased with results in mathematics with over 80% achieving a standard pass. We are proud to report that 66% of students studied the English Baccalaureate with 42% of students achieving good grades in all of their English Baccalaureate subjects. Students’ achievement is very pleasing in a range of subjects particularly in Separate Sciences, Combined Science, English Literature, History, Drama, Physical Education, Music, Food and Design Technology, ensuring students have a strong basis for the next stage in their education.
Exceptional individual performances include Mae Traynor and Nell Sedgwick both of whom achieved the much-coveted Grade 9 in 5 of their subjects; and Jennifer Hallam who achieved Grade 9 in 3 of her subjects and a Grade 8 in 5 others. This is particularly impressive given the national decrease in the percentage of students achieving the very top grades this year in comparison to recent years. Congratulations also go to Maya Wainwright, Jennifer Halam and Erin Preger, who also achieved Grades 9 in a number of subjects.
The school is also delighted to report astonishing progress in learning across the 5 years from a number of students, including Amber Earls, Lucy Nolan, Madeliene Crosby, Reuben Ryder, Jorge Ingman and David Oruma Stephen, all of whom worked exceptionally hard despite, in some cases, very challenging circumstances, and performed at a level way beyond expectations.
As always, we are very proud of our students, particularly given the challenging circumstances which they have endured over the past few years. They have worked extremely hard and risen to so many challenges to secure results which will allow them to take the next steps into education, training or employment. We are very much looking forward to hearing of the continued success of our students at college and beyond.
