Head of Faculty – Mathematics – Miss L Higginson
Miss Higginson completed her BEd Degree in Secondary Mathematics Education at Manchester Metropolitan University. She began her teaching career at Manor Road High School for Girls, before joining Mossley Hollins in 2010. She served the first 6 years with us as Deputy Head of Mathematics and now leads our dedicated and experienced Maths team.
The Deputy Head of Faculty in Mathematics is Mr M Frost.
Head of Faculty – Science – Miss S Walton
Miss Walton graduated from The University of Manchester in 2013 with a BSc(hons) Degree in Biochemistry at. She then completed her PGCE in Secondary Science at Manchester Metropolitan University in 2014/2015. Her teaching career began in 2015, joining Mossley Hollins as an NQT. Miss Walton has progressed from Teacher of Science to Coordinator before becoming Faculty Leader in January 2019.
The Deputy Head of Faculty in Science is Mr Fenton.
Head of Faculty – Technology – Mrs H Duncan
Mrs Duncan studied at the University of Liverpool where she gained a Bachelor of Education (Hons) in Food Technology. She began her career at in Manchester as a teacher of Food Technology and worked for 17 years in a range of posts ranging from Senior Tutor, Learning Co-ordinator, Assistant Headteacher, Director of Technology. When moving to a school in Tameside where she taught for 10 years, she was Director of Learning and Teaching. Mrs Duncan joined Mossley Hollins in 2017 as Head of Technology, Art and Computer Science faculty.
The Deputy Head of Faculty in Technology is Mr A Chalmers.
Head of Faculty – Modern Foreign Languages – Mr J Stevens
Miss Owen graduated from Lancaster University with a BA (Hons) degree in French and German studies. She spent 14 months of her degree studying in Heidelberg, Germany and Poitiers, France. She went on to do a PGCE in Secondary MFL at Sheffield Hallam University, completing one of her teaching placements at a secondary school in Dijon, teaching English and Biology. Miss Owen began her teaching career at Standish Community High School in Wigan where she taught French, Spanish and German as a classroom teacher and later as the Second in Faculty. Miss Owen headed up a European languages and sports project and secured substantial funding from ‘Comenius’ to complete the project. In 2015 Miss Owen joined Mossley Hollins High School as a Head of Year (Progress) and has worked as Second in MFL, Head of French and a Teaching and Learning Co-ordinator. She now works as Head of Faculty alongside Mr Stevens.
Head of Faculty – Humanities – Miss N Jones (Maternity Leave)
Head of Faculty – Humanities – Mr B King (Maternity Cover)
Miss Jones graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Geography from Durham University followed by her PGCE in Secondary Geography. She then took up her first teaching post in in a large comprehensive school in Cambridge for 8 years, progressing to Head of Geography. She also held the post of Assistant Head of Year, worked with trainee geography teachers at the University of Cambridge and as a facilitator for the Cambridge Teaching Alliance ‘developing effective teaching’ course supporting recently qualified teachers to improve their teaching practice. Miss Jones has also undertaken several professional training courses; the Middle Leaders Development Programme (National College of Teachers and Leaders) and the Developing Senior Leaders Programme (Cambridge Teaching Schools Network). She also has a mentoring certificate from the University of Cambridge mentors programme. In 2017, Miss Jones took up the post of Head of Faculty (Humanities) when relocating to the North West.

Head of Faculty – Arts and Sports – Mrs V Dodd
Mrs Dodd graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University in 2003 with a BA(hons) Degree in Physical Education with a second subject in History. Her teaching career began in 2003, in Rochdale she then joined Mossley Hollins as a Coordinator of Physical Education. Before becoming Faculty Leader of Arts and Sports in September 2017.
The Deputy Heads of Faculty of Arts and Sports are Mr A Doodson (Lead responsibility for KS3 Core PE, BTEC Sport, Boys Extra-Curricular Enrichment and Competitive Sports) & Mrs V Ryan Head of Drama, Character Co-ordinator & Middle Leader (Performing Arts)
Director of Special Educational Needs and Learning Support/Special Educational Need – Ms A Sherlock
Ms Sherlock completed her degree at Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds obtaining a BPA.(Hons) with distinction. She then completed her PGCE at Liverpool John Moores in Physical Education with Dance. Ms Sherlock achieved her PGCERT in Special Educational Needs (SENCO Award) at Edge Hill University in 2017.
