English

Head of Faculty – English – Miss M Osborne

Miss Osborne graduated with BA (Hons) in English from The University of Reading where she developed her love of literature specialising in Shakespeare in performance and American Literature. She moved to Manchester to complete her PGCE in Secondary English at The University of Manchester. Miss Osborne taught at two comprehensive schools in Oldham before joining Mossley Hollins in 2018. She has completed her National Professional Qualification in Middle Leadership and has been an professional mentor and course facilitator for leadership training. She is currently a mentor to teachers completing their PGCE and ECT years.

 

Maths

Co-Head of Faculty – Mathematics – Miss L Higginson 

Miss Higginson completed her BEd Degree in Secondary Mathematics Education at Manchester Metropolitan University. She began her teaching career at Manor Road High School for Girls, before joining Mossley Hollins in 2010. She served the first 6 years with us as Deputy Head of Mathematics and now leads our dedicated and experienced Maths team.

Co-Head of Faculty, Middle Leader: ECT/ITT/Teach First Lead – Mr M Frost

Mr Frost graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Pure Mathematics from the University of Liverpool, followed by a PGCE in Secondary Mathematics from Manchester Metropolitan University. Mr Frost took his first teaching role in a Catholic Secondary School in Blackeley before moving to Mossley Hollins 18 months later in 2015. Now entering his 10th year at Mossley Hollins, Mr Frost has progressed through several roles; Coordinator of Maths, Deputy Head of Faculty, Teaching and Learning Coordinator, Middle Leader for Curriculum, Options and Character. Mr Frost was in the first cohort of teachers who studied the HETP (Highly Effective Teacher Programme) and now facilitates the course alongside Miss Dodd.

Science

Head of Faculty – Science – M S Walton

Miss Walton graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry from the University of Manchester, followed by a PGCE in Secondary Chemistry. Miss Walton started her teaching career here at Mossley as a Newly Qualified Teacher in 2014. After 4 years, she then because Science Coordinator before eventually being promoted to Head of Faculty in 2019.

The Deputy Head of Faculty in Science is Mr Fenton.

Technology & Art

Head of Faculty – Technology – Mr K McGuinness

Kevin is a leading food practitioner with over twenty-five years’ experience teaching in comprehensive schools in the northwest. After graduating with BSc Hons Degree in “Food Technology” Kevin worked with several large companies including Kellogg and M&S before retraining to become a food teacher. Later becoming a head of department and a mentor with MMU and Manchester University. He has received awards from the “British Nutrition Foundation” (BNF) and “The Schools Guide” for his pupils GCSE achievements.  

Kevin arrived at Mossley Hollins in 2024 as faculty lead for Technology & Art, and remains a lead practitioner, teaching KS3 Food & Nutrition and GCSE AQA Food Preparation & Nutrition.  
Kevin is also leading member of the National Education Union (NEU) and is part of the English Education Working Group committee for the British Nutrition Foundation (BNF), and a lead trainer for the Food teacher’s centre.  

MFL

Head of Faculty – Modern Foreign Languages – Miss K Jeffers

Miss Jeffers graduated with a BA (Hons) in French and Spanish from The University of Manchester with a year working abroad in both countries in tourism, and recruitment, followed by a PGCE in Secondary French. She took up her first teaching post in a Catholic school in Stockport, progressing to the role of Subject Lead for Ab-Initio Spanish within the school. Miss Jeffers later moved to a large comprehensive school in Rochdale as Head of MFL and has now been Head of Faculty at Mossley Hollins since 2024. She has also been a Subject Mentor for trainee teachers and attained the NPQ qualification for Leading Behaviour and Culture.

Humanities

Head of Faculty – Humanities – Mr B King

Mr King graduated with a BA (Hons) in History from The University of Sheffield, followed by a PGCE in Secondary History. He took up his first teaching post in a large comprehensive school in Manchester, progressing to a Teaching and Learning Role within the school. Mr King moved to Mossley Hollins as Head of History in 2021 and eventually becoming Head of Faculty a year later. He is also been a mentee and is currently a mentor for the Highly Effective Teaching Programme for the Tame River Educational Trust..

Arts and Sports

Head of Arts and Sports – Mr A Doodson

Mr Doodson graduated with a First Class Degree in Sport Science and Geography from Loughborough University in 2007. Following on from this he continued studying at Loughborough to complete his PGCE in Physical Education. He started his teaching career in 2008 at the Derby High School in Bury before moving to Mossley Hollins in 2010. He has had a number of roles in school including PE teacher, Head of Year, Senior Head of Year, Head of Boys PE, Deputy Head of Faculty and most recently Head of Arts and Sports.
