Admissions Policy for 2027 to 2028

The School is currently consulting on the admission arrangements for 2027 to 2028. The link below will take you to the Consultation Document which outlines the proposed changes:

Proposed Changes

From September 2027, the Trust is proposing that an additional criterion is added to the oversubscription criteria for Mossley Hollins High School where preference would be given to children of staff employed at the school. This criterion will apply when a parent has been employed by the Trust as a member of staff at Mossley Hollins on a permanent contract for two consecutive years or, at the time at which the application is made to the school, the member of staff is recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage. As detailed below, this criterion would apply at point 4 of the school’s oversubscription criteria. The Trust is also proposing to make changes to the waiting list arrangements for Year 7 and, again, further details can be found below.

Proposed oversubscription criteria for admissions from September 2027 onwards

Where the number of applications for admission is greater than the published admission number, applications will be considered against the criteria set out below.

After the admission of students with Educational Health Care Plans where the school is named on the statement, the criteria will be applied in the following order:

1. Looked After Children.

2. Children and families with exceptional medical or social needs.

3. Sibling: This will apply where there are brothers or sisters attending the school at the time of application, who will still be attending at the time of admission, i.e. in the September when the student is admitted to Year 7. Preference will be given to students living nearest to the school.

4. Children of staff – this will apply where:

a) A member of staff has been employed for 2 consecutive years at the time at which the application for admission to the school is made, and/or

b) The member of staff is recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage.

5. Children attending named partner primary schools at the time of application.  Preference will be given to students attending named partner primary schools who live nearest to the school.

6. All other applications on distance. In the event of distances being the same for 2 or more applications where this distance would be the last place/s to be allocated, the place will be allocated to the student that is nearer using walking distance as measured using the Local Authority’s school admission data mapping software.

Proposed changes to the waiting list arrangements from September 2027 onwards

Historically, the Local Authority has held a waiting list for Year 7 places at Mossley Hollins for the duration of that academic year from September through to July. From September 2027, it is proposed that the Local Authority will now only hold this waiting list until Christmas of that year, at the end of the Autumn Term.
