A Modern, Challenging and Supportive Curriculum for 2020 and Beyond
We are currently working hard to design the curriculum that we will put in place for our students from September
2020. As part of this process we have to make a number of key decisions to ensure that students have the correct
breadth and depth of curriculum in lessons in accordance with the national curriculum, which is statutory in
maintained schools. In addition, I am very keen that we maintain high ambitions for your sons and daughters and
give them opportunities to excel in strong academic subjects that will give them the very best opportunities in later
life.
To enable us to complete this work to the best of our ability we have followed, and in many cases gone beyond, the
guidance of the department for Education but also studied the curricula offered by some of the most successful
schools in the country. The completed models will be presented to the Governing body at the end of February for
their agreement.
As well as their work in lessons I am keen to continue to support extra -curricular opportunities for your child,
allowing them to build their cultural capital and character alongside their academic successes. This is, and will
continue to be an incredibly important part of our ethos here at Mossley Hollins. Such activities often take the form
of educational visits. These form part of a rich tapestry of learning and experience. We are so grateful to our staff
who continue to give freely of their time (including in their own holidays), without pay, to offer such opportunities
for our students. For these reasons, just as you would expect, we insist on the highest standards of conduct during
such times in line with our values of manners and honesty. It is so lovely to hear of just how well so many of our
students live up to those expectations.
If you would like to make any comments or ask any questions about our curriculum offer, please do not hesitate to
contact me in school.
I hope everyone has a pleasant and restful half term.
Mr Marshall
