At Mossley Hollins High School, we are proud to offer a rich and growing international programme that supports our pupils in developing as global citizens. Through curriculum-based projects, international partnerships and whole-school activities, pupils explore different cultures, languages and global issues.
Our international work is embedded across subjects and provides meaningful opportunities for pupils to develop cultural understanding, communication skills and awareness of the wider world.
Our strongest international partnership is with Carl-Zeiss Oberschule in Berlin, established in 2023. This partnership is embedded across the curriculum and provides pupils with sustained opportunities to collaborate, communicate and learn from their peers in Germany.
Through Sport and Shared History
Year 10 pupils explore how sport and history shape identity, rivalry and unity in both Manchester and Berlin. Pupils examine the historical roots of football culture, including links to industrial heritage, post-war recovery and community identity. They exchange presentations, student interviews and reflections, comparing how sport continues to influence modern society.

Year 8 pupils collaborate online through Geography lessons to investigate how both cities are working towards sustainability. Pupils explore themes such as public transport, recycling, green spaces, energy use and urban development.
They exchange digital work, including presentations, maps and photographs, and respond to each other’s findings through structured comparison tasks. The project concludes with a shared “Green Futures Guide”.

We have developed a growing partnership with a school in Spain, providing pupils with authentic opportunities to practise language skills and engage with Spanish culture.
My Community Project
Year 9 and Year 10 pupils take part in telecollaboration, communicating through video calls, voice recordings and shared digital tasks.
The project leads to a bilingual digital booklet and will culminate in a visit from Spanish pupils.

Chinese New Year is celebrated across the school through Food Technology lessons and whole-school activities, allowing pupils to explore the importance of cultural traditions and global celebrations.
In lessons, pupils learn about the meaning behind traditional dishes such as dumplings, noodles and rice, and how these foods represent ideas such as luck, prosperity and family unity. Pupils prepare dishes inspired by Chinese cuisine while learning about the cultural significance behind them. The school canteen also adapts its menu to reflect Chinese New Year, giving the wider school community the opportunity to experience global cuisine. Pupils also explore how the festival is celebrated in different regions and countries, developing a broader understanding of cultural diversity.

Year 8 pupils explore Aboriginal art from Australia, focusing on its cultural importance and use as a form of storytelling.
Pupils learn about Dreamtime, symbolism and how art is used to communicate stories, beliefs and connections to the land. They analyse traditional patterns and consider how symbols represent journeys, animals and cultural meaning.
Through practical work, pupils experiment with pattern, colour and texture before creating their own clay tiles inspired by Aboriginal designs. Throughout the project, pupils discuss the importance of respecting cultural traditions and understanding the role of art in preserving identity.

European Day of Languages – Bake Off Pupils create cakes inspired by countries around the world, researching ingredients and cultural traditions. The event celebrates diversity and encourages pupils to explore global cuisines.

Black History Month
Through assemblies, form-time activities, music and library displays, pupils explore the contributions of Black individuals and communities locally and globally, developing a deeper understanding of identity and equality.

We are currently working towards the British Council International School Award, recognising our commitment to embedding international learning across the school.
Our programme ensures that all pupils develop the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to thrive in a global society.
