Through study in this broad range of subjects learners will develop an understanding of the key concepts and processes within each one.  whilst at the same time developing other important skills such a:

  • Reflection and evaluation 
  • Teamwork and participation
  • Self and time management
Where learners are experiencing difficulties in literacy and / or numeracy we may personalise the curriculum to better fir their needs by giving extra support and time in these critical skills.

Key Stage 4 Curriculum

At key stage 4 the curriculum is personalised to the needs and aspirations of the individual learner. Learners will follow different pathways and courses according to their strengths and needs.

 

Everyone will study the core subjects:
  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science
In addition everybody will continue to study:
  • Religious Education
  • Physical Education
  • Personal Social and Health Education
  • Citizenship
In addition learners chose from a range of options and pathways carefully designed to allow them the most suitable personalised curriculum to fit their needs.

 

These include:
  • traditional GCSE options in a wide range of subjects
  • Applied and work place based learning such as Diplomas and Young Apprenticeships.
  • Vocational and skills based training both in and out of school
Learners may also choose to attend Twilight courses at Tameside College where they can study BTEC first certificates in a range of subjects. These qualifications are equivalent to 2 GCSE’s at grades A*-C.  

GCSE option choices 2009/10 learners currently choose 1 option from each group. The groups are carefully designed to allow learners to choose the most suitable courses whilst at the same time ensuring a balanced and broad curriculum for all.
